Cute Riverside Dining Domes Are Popping Up At Somerset House This Summer

These dining domes are our new favourite summer hangout!

Not content with bringing a living, breathing forest to their courtyard this summer, Somerset House have unveiled their next step in a season of highlights. They’ll be making use of their river-facing terrace to set up a series of deluxe ‘dining domes’, and inviting diners to take in the sights of the Thames whilst tucking into delicious food from an award-winning culinary team. The dining domes differ from your standard igloo slightly; like a igloo, they’re covered and heated, but unlike an igloo, they’re half open-sided, all the better to enjoy the views. Knowing the vagaries of the British weather all too well, Somerset House advises you to bring a warm layer just in case. Should you wish to pop along, you’ll find lunch, dinner, and afternoon tea all served to the domes, with highlights such as beetroot cured salmon, roast belly of pork, and a ragout of English brassicas all available. The afternoon tea, meanwhile, is highlighted by classic sandwiches, fruit scones, mini lemon possets, and pistachio and rosewater glazed friands.

The dining domes are available to book from April 14, and bookings are live now – find them here. There are a couple of bits in fine print to note, though: first, they’re only accepting bookings up to May 2 right now, so spaces are likely to be at a premium until more dates are released. Additionally, the domes are only available for bookings of four to six people, and there will be a minimum spend on dinner sessions. So, plot your menu and your dining companions wisely!

Hopefully, these domes will be sticking around all summer. Partly to make full use of that ‘summer of love’ we’ve been promised, but also because the novelty of wandering from the forest to an igloo just kind of makes sense for the unusual year we’re having…

Meanwhile, these rooftop igloos are all set to offer sweeping views over the city this summer!
