Mattia Sedda presents
CHOIN
“CHOIN, CHOIN!” call the farmers. “CHOIN, CHOIN!” answer the pigs.
In Sardinia, that’s how farmers summon their pigs to eat—direct, honest, no pretenses. And it’s this call, this moment of surrender, that inspired Mattia Sedda’s debut solo show.
Directed by Aitor Basauri (Spymonkey), CHOIN is a hilarious and heartfelt clown show about an ambitious Sardinian who moves to London, barely speaking English, to become an actor. With just a suitcase and a dream, he throws himself into the theatre world—only to find the industry and society don’t quite know what to do with him.
“The best theatre is brave, courageous and unpredictable and those are the undisputed qualities of Mattia as a performer so his theatre is exactly like him. To be part of something as exciting as that.. more than a job is a present from the Gods of theatre”
Aitor Basauri, founder of Spymonkey and director of CHOIN
From restaurant shifts to mastering the Queen’s English, from rare auditions to constant rejection, Mattia fights to fit in. Desperate to prove himself, he creates CHOIN—his ultimate professional acting showcase. He pulls out all the stops: Hamlet, Peter Pan, object manipulation, even magic. But what starts as an attempt to impress turns into something far more personal—and far funnier.
Blending absurd humor with deep nostalgia, CHOIN explores the immigrant experience, the comedy of chasing an impossible dream, and the struggle of losing oneself to fit in. In the end, it’s about finding freedom—not in becoming someone else, but in embracing who you already are.
And in the end, we’re all saying the same thing: CHOIN.
Press feedback:
“Mattia Sedda embodies the perfect union between the medieval buffoon and commedia dell’arte in a contemporary key”
“Mattia Sedda the buffoon makes us laugh from start to finish, but Mattia Sedda the man opens small cracks here and there in which he takes on the responsibility of making us also think that being migrants, “fitting” into a rotten society, no longer even recognize ourselves in our gestures it is not so “normal”.”

After moving to London, he trained at National Youth Theatre with Alice Feetham, Royal Central School of Speech and Drama with Colin Hurley, who said about him “I’ve never thought we’d have understood a single word you say”, Fontainebleau Acting School of Drama with Christian Burgess. In 2019, after having been rejected from several drama school, one of which admittedly said “you need to have a British accent to join us”, in his last audition he is accepted into East 15 where he received his formal training and then went on to star in the British sit-com “Hapless”.
In the last three years, he singled in on his love for comedy and clowning. He went on to train with Dec Munro, Viggo Venn, Eric Davis, Mick Barnfather, Spymonkey and Ecole Philippe Gaullier whilst bringing his set to several line-up nights in London successfully. He then joined the improv group Night of Drama during the Edinburgh fringe run in 2023. In 2024, he devised his first solo-clown show called CHOIN directed by Aitor Basauri, co-founder and performer of Spymonkey.
