In partnership with men’s health charity Movember, Pringles has announced the launch of its first ever Scan & Scran Café. The traditional British caff pop-up is designed to help people kick off a conversation if they think a friend needs to talk, as new research from Pringles shows that almost half of Brits (46%) don’t know how to ask someone if they’re okay[1].
Visitors to the café will be shown how they can scan the QR code in Mr P’s iconic moustache on select Pringles tubes to access the Movember Conversations tool. The tool provides advice and guidance on how best to check in with your mates if you think they need support.
Taking place on Wednesday 2nd and Thursday 3rd October, the Scan & Scran Café will be serving up classic British dishes, from sausage baps to egg mayo sandwiches. The pop-up will operate a ‘pay with a post’ system, with visitors asked to post on their socials about the experience to spread awareness in lieu of payment.
Tradesmen and construction workers are at high risk of experiencing the consequences of mental health issues, with a third reporting elevated anxiety issues every day[2], so where better to start speaking up than in the comfort of a British institution, the local high street caff?
The pop-up will be opened by football pundit and TV personality, Jimmy Bullard. Having worked as a tradesman before taking to the pitch, Jimmy is no stranger to building site lingo – which means he knows how this can be used to tackle more serious topics, like men’s mental health. Jimmy will be playing host at the Scan & Scran Café, serving up food and chatting to visitors about how to navigate tricky conversations and checking in with your mates.
But it’s not just tradesmen who are invited – the Scan & Scran Café is open to everyone. Guests will also be given the opportunity to learn more about the Movember-approved ALEC method for talking to your friends about their problems; Ask, Listen, Encourage action, and Check in.
Seanáin Mcguigan, Pringles Brand Manager for UK&I, says: “We’re excited to work with Movember for the fifth year running and champion positive mental wellbeing with the Scan & Scran Café. Pringles is all about sharing – so we hope this campaign helps remind everyone of the benefits of popping in on your friends and loved ones and sharing a conversation.”
Anne-Cecile Berthier, Country Director UK & Europe at Movember, said: “Our partnership with Pringles is about finding ways to help us all feel more connected. And while it can feel awkward to share and check in on your mates, it is one of the most important things you can do. It’s not always obvious if someone is struggling, so together we’re finding ways to get people to open-up and lighten the load”.
The Scan & Scran Café will be held on 2nd and 3rd October. No tickets or pre-booking required.
