The Pacioli Consort: Songs of Christmas

6 December @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm
£5 – £18

The Pacioli Consort are delighted to announce our concert of Christmas choral music in the beautiful and historic London Church of St Botolph without Aldgate!

Come to hear beautiful pieces composed between the 16th century up to the present day – with rich harmonies and glorious counterpoint, we will explore some magical music written for the Advent and Christmas period. Our programme will include the music of Poulenc, Victoria, and Warlock, along with some familiar Christmas favourites.

The Pacioli Consort is a recently-established choir formed of young singers, all trained in the chapels of Cambridge University, including The Choir Trinity College, Cambridge. Named after Luca Pacioli, the “Father of Accounting”, what better place for us to sing than this church in the City of London.

Luca Pacioli (c. 1446–1517) was a Franciscan Friar, mathematician and teacher, who wrote many important mathematical works and teaching materials. Often referred to as the ‘Father of Accounting’, he was one of the first to publish details of the double-entry bookkeeping system that was in use by Venetian merchants at the time.

He worked for a time in the court of Ludovico Sforza, Duke of Milan, where he met and became close friends with Leonardo Da Vinci – even having some of his mathematical publications illustrated by Da Vinci with geometric diagrams and shapes. After fleeing Milan upon its invasion by French King Louis XII’s army, Pacioli and Da Vinci travelled and eventually shared a house for a few years in Florence. He lived and participated in a time of great mathematical, scientific and artistic exploration during the Renaissance in Europe.

It is in this spirit of collaboration and cross-disciplinary interest that our ensemble – The Pacioli Consort – has been established.
